SkipKid Weekend Roundup: January 2-3

Free Family Art Day, Maple Street School, Prospect Lefferts Garden.
On Saturday, January 2nd, bring the whole family to explore the theme of “Hibernation” through crafts, puppetry, and stories. Free Family Art Days are opportunities for families to play, imagine, and explore through a variety of different art forms. Each month storytellers present crafts, songs, stories, and creative play around a theme. 10am – 11:30am, Maple Street School, 21 Lincoln Road.

Bargemusic Family Concert, Bargemusic, Dumbo.
On Saturday, January 2nd, hear a free family concert at Brooklyn’s floating concert hall. This is a one hour performance, including a Q & A session with the musicians. Doors open 15 minutes prior to concert, which starts at 4pm.

Greenlight story time: Winter Wonderland, Greenlight Bookstore, Fort Greene.
On Saturday, January 2nd, at 11AM, it’s a special winter story hour. Start off the year’s story time season with a celebration of children’s favorite books about winter weather. You will hear snowdrifts of picture books, including Ezra Jack Keats’ classic A Snowy Day, Uri Shulavitz’s city story Snow, and Over and Under the Snow illustrated by our neighbor Christopher Silas Neal and more. And after the readings, there will be a special snowflake craft together! Ages 3 to 8.

There are 24 subway lines and over 200 bus lines in New York City. On Sunday, January 3rd, create your own personalized map of the city with subway and bus lines imagined by you – see how many routes you can create!

Pine Pillow Palooza, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Heights.
On Sunday, January 3rd, make your own fragrant Japanese pine needle pillow to take home (ages 3 and up). What a great way to start the new year! 10 am – 12 pm.
