SkipKid Weekend Roundup: July 9-10


This weekend promises music, water adventures, and a free block party that your kids will love! Have fun, and thank you for telling your friends about SkipKid!


BK Block Party, presented by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, at the Albee Square Farmers Market, Downtown Brooklyn. On Saturday, July 9, from 10am to noon, enjoy a free outdoor concert featuring Rolie Polie Guacamole performing at the Albee Square Farmers Market. Kids will also enjoy face painting and balloon art while you shop for fresh local veggies and hand-made gifts from Brooklyn vendors.


City of Water Day, various locations including Brooklyn Bridge Park and Whole Foods Gowanus. Highlights of the day include free boat tours on all kinds of vessels, from tall ships to tugboats, and free rowing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and seining.

Story Time with Julie Saab and David Gothard, Greenlight Bookstore, Ft. Greene. Wife and husband author/illustrator team Julie Saab and David Gothard return to Greenlight for their newest Little Lola adventure!


Arm Of the Sea Theater presents Hook, Line, And Sinker, Brooklyn Bridge Park. The visually-charged show features live music and a bevy of low-tech special effects that reveal the river’s complex inner life. Pitched to oldsters and youngsters alike, HOOK, LINE & SINKER celebrates the timeless art of fishing while offering the low-down on eating fish from the Hudson.

A Musical World Tour with Little Orchestra Society, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Crown Heights. Through music, stories, and participatory activities, children will develop a deeper understanding of each selected community and its influences on–and contributions to–the melting pot that is New York City.

Singalong with the Buttons, Elk Cafe, Windsor Terrace. Sweet, silly, original kids music for kids of all ages! Enjoy your coffee while your kids dance and play in this beautiful backyard.


Family Discovery Weekend, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Heights. Don’t miss the first in this summer series where children of all ages can experiment, learn, and play in the Discovery Garden, then create a nature-based craft, artwork, or invention to take home.


Save the date! Saturday, July 23rd, Jonah’s Just Begun 2nd Annual Fundraiser, Lefrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park. Enjoy lunch, roller skating, face painting, the Splash Pad, and photos with your favorite super heroes, all while helping to raise money for a great–and local–cause.
