This Weekend: Touch-a-Truck, Live Music, and Pumpkin Parties!

SkipKid Weekend Roundup: October 1-2

Welcome to October! It’s time for pumpkins, parades, and all things Halloween. But if you’re not quite ready to start planning your costume, try a kid-friendly concert, family art workshop, story time, or even a dog party! Enjoy the weekend, and thank you for helping us spread the word about SkipKid!

Creativity Lab, Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Heights. Visitors of all ages are invited to explore their creative side at Brooklyn’s art museum. In this drop-in workshop, take inspiration from the museum galleries and get messy, experiment with materials, and learn artistic techniques with a new project each month. Bring the whole family and stay for as long as you’d like!

North Brooklyn Touch-a-Truck, MS 577/PS 17, Williamsburg. The 4th annual North Brooklyn Touch-a-Truck fundraiser raises operating funds for the BK Story Voyager! – literacy on wheels. Kids will have a blast identifying trucks. There will also be face painting, a bouncy house and crafts.

Pumpkin Day 2016, Brooklyn Expo Center, Greenpoint. This annual Pumpkin Day offers a pick-your-pumpkin, arts & crafts, face painting, concessions, activities presented by local businesses and organizations, and live music and dance performances. While you’re there check out the special Greencycle Swap.

The Annual Ragamuffin Parade, Bay Ridge. Held every fall, the Ragamuffin Parade has been a Bay Ridge tradition since 1967.

Dog Beach Restoration Celebration, Prospect Park Dog Beach. If your kids get up early and love dogs, consider this family-and-dog friendly event in Prospect Park. “Dog Beach” has been under renovations all summer; to mark the return of this community treasure, you are invited to an opening celebration where dog-friendly (and people-friendly) cake will be served.

Highlights™ Magazine Storytime, Barnes & Noble, Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights. Engaging activities and fun with features from Highlights™ magazine, including puzzles, group activities and a make and take book (while supplies last).

Scharen Knippen, Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park. Celebrate fall at Lefferts with the old Dutch craft Scharen Knippen. Join the Prospect Park Alliance to cut out autumn and Halloween scenes and patterns, some designed in the 19th century by Mrs. Lefferts herself. While you’re here join us for potato sack races and other fun historic toys and games.

Melvin Seals & JGB Special Family Show, Brooklyn Bowl, Williamsburg. This all ages family show will include face painting by the Cheeky Chipmunk.

Halloween Harvest, Luna Park, Coney Island. The colors are changing and it’s finally cooling down! Fall is definitely on the horizon, and that means Halloween Harvest at Luna Park in Coney Island! Every weekend through Oct 30 enjoy family-friendly events filled with tons of activities, entertainment, and of course the Luna Park rides and games you know and love!
